INSECURITY: One Beheaded, Scores Dead, As Cultists Go Berserk In Delta Capital

No fewer than 10 persons have been killed as two cult groups, Aromate and black axe confraternities engaged in reprisal attacks in Asaba, Oshimili south local government area of Delta State.

There was palpable tension in Asaba metropolis especially in Camp 74, behind the health centre, along Nnebisi road where a surveyor, Mr. Ifeanyi  Nwokobia, 67 years old was killed and former Deputy governor’s office, along the Asaba-Onitsha expressway, as fear gripped residents.

Although, details of the incident was sketchy, a reliable source said trouble started following the brutal murder of one of their leaders.

In a renewed orgy on Tuesday July 13th 2012, suspected cultists unleashed more violence on Ibusa road, Asaba, killing one of the cultists.

It was gathered that the head was severed and displayed along the express.

It was also reported that one of their “Bado”, was gruseomely murdered behind health center, opposite, Studio 24, Asaba by the rival group.

Recalled that Chairman of Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Oshimili South local government area, Anthony Ochei, was killed by a rival group on Monday at Camp 74, area of Asaba.

The victim was shot dead on his way back from school runs as early as 7am, and also shot his wife on the hand side.

The ex – NULGE Chairman popularly called “Searchimore” was shot dead in front of wife before shooting his wife at hand.

An eyewitness had it that, “the man and his wife were in the vehicle coming back after dropping their children in the school.

“He was a revenue officer in the local government here in Asaba, he was on his way coming back together with his wife when the cultists shot at them around camp 74 area of Asaba, behind government house.

“The man died on the spot while his wife was rushed to hospital, were she was receiving treatment.

When contacted, the Police public relations officer (PPRO), DSP Bright Edafe said three people have died so far in cult related matter.

“The information we have here confirmd three  killed and it is about cult related matter, the police are on of the situation”.

The PPRO however said several arrest have been made, but could not ascertain the number of cultists arrested. members of Aiye Confraternity Cult Group from Akwa, Anambra State were in town carrying out the killing of identified members of rival cult groups.
