Trouble started on the eve of Friday 22nd January 2021, from a suspected gas leakage at the Gas plant located along the Benin-Asaba expressway, resulting into a serious explosion.
It was also gathered that several houses surrounding the plant were destroyed as a result of the gas explosion.
It was learnt that the state fire service personnel were on ground to battle the fire.
Eyewitnesses however lamented that when victims were rushed to the Agbor Central Hospital, doctors and nurses were not on ground to attend to the victim which caused the death of one at the hospital while the other died at the scene of the explosion.
Meanwhile, another disaster occurred at Amachai Community in Okpanam, Oshimili north local government area of the state as a 60-year-old woman allegedly took her life.
The woman, simply identified as Mrs. Okenyi was declared missing by her family members on 19th Tuesday 2021, after she left the house for her farm and did not return.
The body of the deceased was found hanging on a tree with her farm tools close to the tree.
It was gathered that the mother of two was often seen going to her farm which was far away from the scene where her body was found.
But a woman who expresed doubt over the suicide said, “I do not believe this woman actually killed herself. The ropes looks too short and her legs are too close to the ground. It is possible that someone killed her and came to hang her on this tree”.
It was learnt that the body of the deceased has since been deposited in an undisclosed mortuary.
Contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, confirmed the suicide.
