Delta Police Command Reports Significant Achievements In Crime Prevention, Public Safety

In a recent press briefing, Commissioner of Police Aina Adesola highlighted the successes of the Delta State Police Command in combating crime and enhancing public safety over the past two weeks.

The briefing served as a platform for the Commissioner to outline key operations and strategic directives aimed at fostering community security.

Commissioner Adesola commenced the briefing by emphasizing the importance of collaboration between the police and the media.

He reiterated the command’s commitment to maintaining law and order, ensuring public safety, and upholding the dignity of the police force.

Commanders have been tasked with ongoing efforts to raid criminal hideouts and treat every interaction with the public with professionalism and decorum.

The briefing covered several noteworthy operations:

1. Cult and Armed Robbery Incident**: On January 17, police apprehended a suspected cultist who succumbed to gunshot wounds sustained during a confrontation with officers in Ughelli. A Beretta pistol was recovered during this operation.

2. Planned Kidnapping Foiled**: A successful operation on January 11 led to the recovery of firearms and the evasion of six suspected kidnappers in Ughelli North LGA.

3. Drug-Related Arrests**: Multiple arrests were made related to drug offenses, including a 45-year-old woman in possession of a substantial quantity of a drug suspected to be “Loud,” and a 43-year-old man arrested with 36 bottles of nitrous oxide, commonly known as “laughing gas.”

4. **Murder Investigation**: The command is investigating a tragic incident in Ogwashi-Uku where a young man was fatally stabbed by his brother, influenced by drug abuse.

The Commissioner stressed the urgent need to address the rising incidence of drug-related violence among youth in the community.

He disclosed that firearms Recovered 11, ammunition Recovered 80 rounds, suspects arrested (Various Charges), 25, including murder and drug offenses.

Commissioner Adesola urged citizens to participate actively in crime prevention initiatives, expressing gratitude towards the Delta State Government for their continuous support.

He reaffirmed the police command’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents while encouraging the public to cooperate with law enforcement efforts.
