These bandits allegedly rob, abduct and kill residents around Ughelli and Warri axis unhindered.
It was gathered that on Sunday, 28th November, 2020, the hoodlums purportedly stormed the highway in broad daylight struck, killed an unidentified driver of an 18 seater bus and kidnapped all passengers on board
“One of the cardinal responsibilities of government at all levels is to safeguard lives and properties of Nigerians.
“This is succinctly provided for under Section14 (2) (b) of the 1999 Constitution as amended. The importance of this responsibility cannot be overemphasised, because the entire economic, social and political progress of any society depends on it”, a lawyer, Matthew Omonade, said.
The level of insecurity in state and Ughelli north, particularly is unprecedented. The numbers of lives wasted so far by robbers and kidnappers after police officers abandoned their duty post, has raised serious questions about the humanity, preparedness and efficiency of all law enforcement agencies in tackling crime.
In his words: “I think it is right about time to amend the Nigerian Fire Arms Act so as to enable responsible citizens bear arms for the safety of their lives, families and community.
“Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and Chief Godwin Adode, the local government Chairman of Ughelli north must do something about the insecurity in Ughelli north”, he called.
The State Commissioner of Police, Muhammed Hafiz Inuwa, while addressing members of the Indigenous Correspondents’ Chapel (ICC), who were on a courtesy call last week, affirmed the there is a spike in crime.
