Delta state governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, applauded FIFA and NFF for considering the riverine area of the state for such important and economic project.
Represented by the Deputy Governor, Barr. Kingsley Otuaro, who performed the groundbreaking ceremony of the 750 capacity stadium, he opined that the facility which is strategically located at Ugborodo Community would have a multiplier effect on the economy and also benefit the neighbouring communities and the state at large.
Deacon Otuaro emphasized the undaunted commitment of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s administration to the monumental project.
He advised the community to give its full support to the actualization of the building, saying, “We want to thank FIFA for this laudable project, I’m delighted by the strategic location of the project.
“We cannot over emphasize the relevance of a project like this, how it is going to build capacity, talent, harmony and sports development in the locality.
“As a state we will ensure that we add in our prospective budget contract of the construction of the access road leading to the stadium”, he stated.
The Nigeria Football Federation NFF President, Amaju Pinnick, thanked Governor Okowa, for the tremendous support and hospitality accorded them to make the project successful.
He said the stadium is first of its kind in the riverine area of the state, “I thank the Governor of the State, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa for the support in making sure we get the C of O in a short time.
“FIFA is a very thorough organization and the building plan and approval are already acquired to hit the ground running.
“What would have caused us minimum of 6 million naira was done free by the state government. This is a staduim that will not only bring harmony to the Ugborodo community but to neighbouring communities. It is a stadium of international standard”, he stated.
The stadium is expected to be completed and ready for inauguration within six months.
