The social media is presently abuzz following the defeat of Nigeria’s national team, the Super Eagles by their Tunisia counterpart in a game that ended 0-1 after 90 minutes of play and a five minutes extra time.

The game went 0-0 draw in the first half between both countries but in the second half, Tunisia pulled in one cheap goal through the net of the Super Eagles that changed the tournament.

Nigerians ascribed the defeat of the National Team to the nation’s president, Muhammadu Buhari, who reportedly put a video call across to the team, wishing them good luck that later turned into massive defeat for the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

The game between Tunisia and Nigeria, on Sunday January 23rd 2022, eliminated Nigeria from the ongoing 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

However, a second-half goal from Yossef Msakni ensured Tunisia qualified for the AFCON last-8.

Alex Iwobi was shown a red card during the encounter in Cameroon as the Super Eagles failed to equalize after 90 minutes.

Recall that the Super Eagles had won all their group stage games against Egypt, Sudan and Guinea-Bissau.

A video call this morning with the Super Eagles, to thank and encourage them. We are very proud of their exploits in the ongoing AFCON.

It was a pleasure to speak with Coach Augustine Eguavoen, Team Captain Ahmed Musa, President of Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick, and our Ambassador to Cameroon, Gen Abayomi Olonisakin (Rtd).

I told the team, “You’ve been doing Nigeria proud. You’ve been winning. Please keep on winning. The Federal Government is supporting you, and I say thank you to all the technical crew and the players. Please keep doing the country proud.”
