The Delta State Police Command has recorded another major breakthrough in its sustained campaign against violent crime, kidnapping, and the illegal possession of firearms, with the arrest of suspected kidnappers, the rescue of abducted victims, and the recovery of 178 live cartridges in coordinated operations across the state.

In a statement issued on Friday in Asaba, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said the operations, executed through intelligence-led policing and rapid tactical response, took place in Bomadi, Asaba, and Ubeji communities.

178 Live Cartridges Intercepted in Bomadi

According to the statement, on October 30, 2025, at about 12:30 p.m., operatives of the Bomadi Division, led by CSP Adie Peter Bissong, while on a joint stop-and-search operation with local vigilantes along the Bomadi–Tuomo Road, intercepted a motorcycle conveying a 62-year-old woman identified as Charter Timide.

A search of a sack in her possession led to the discovery of 178 live cartridges neatly concealed for delivery.

Upon interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to purchasing the ammunition from Onitsha Main Market, sparking further intelligence follow-up to determine its intended destination and potential link to criminal groups.

The suspect and the recovered ammunition, the statement added, have been transferred to the State Command Headquarters in Asaba for discreet investigation.

Kidnappers Arrested, Victims Rescued in Ubeji

In another operation the same day, operatives from the Ekpan Division, under the command of CSP Labe Joseph, acted swiftly on a distress call reporting a kidnapping incident at Ubeji Community, behind the Ubeji Gas Plant.

Police teams were immediately mobilized to the scene. On sighting the approaching officers, the suspects fled into an abandoned poultry house, but were promptly surrounded and apprehended.

Those arrested include Felix Omone (33), Solomon Omone (29), Tony Eboye (34), Omone David (32), Jerry Omone (33), Godspower Omone (25), and Edewho Bomele (33), all residents of Ubeji Community.

The operation also led to the rescue of three kidnapped victims, all male residents of Jeddo Community, who were subsequently reunited with their families.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the victims were abducted from a dredging site, taken across the river, and held for ransom under threats to their lives.

The police say efforts are ongoing to track and arrest other fleeing members of the gang, as well as recover weapons and materials used in the operation.

CP Abaniwonda Reassures Public of Ongoing Crackdown

Commending the operatives for their swift and professional response, the Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, reaffirmed the Command’s determination to rid Delta State of criminal elements and ensure the safety of all residents.

He urged citizens to remain vigilant, refrain from shielding criminals, and promptly report suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police station or the Command Control Room via 08036684974.

“These successes reflect the Command’s renewed focus on intelligence-driven policing and collaboration with local communities. We remain resolute in protecting lives and property across Delta State,” CP Abaniwonda stated.
