Barely 72 hours after the kangaroo defection celebrated by the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), a stalwart of the major opposition, All Progressives Congress (APC), in Delta State, Apostle Victor Sorokwu, said he never gave a thought of joining PDP.
Sorokwu, a former secretary of the party in Delta North Senatorial District, disclosed that some of the names, including his name announced by the PDP State Chairman, Olorogun Kingsley Esiso, did not defect, describing it as a mere jamboree.
Addressing journalists on Monday January 24th 2022, in Asaba, the state capital, Apostle Sorokwu, a die-hard supporter of APC, hinted that he remains a faithful and strong supporter of APC in the state.
According to him, the event put together by the PDP, was a “share desperation of a party afraid of its shadow in 2023”, saying it was laughable for PDP to announce his name as one of the APC defectors.
His words: “I never at any point contemplated joining PDP. I am shocked when I started receiving calls from friends, party members and others asking me if I have truly decamped to PDP”.
Flanked by Hon. Adizue Eluaka, Delta North APC Chairman and others, he said: “I was never approached neither did I attend the rally where my name was announced on the podium that I have decamped to PDP”.
Sorokwu, who lamented the horse trading, blackmail and others among politicians, said since the matter is in the media domain, I have to take this step to clear my hard earned name and remove the derogatory word, “decampee”, from it.
“I know PDP inside out. I was one of the support group- face to face- that midwife governor Ifeanyi Okowa emergence as governor, but since 2016, I resolved to stay in the opposition party to strengthen the ruling party, PDP in the State.
“Good name is better and integrity should be my watchword. Some names that were mentioned there never decamped, they were not there. I see explosion, congestion, set in PDP.
“Delta should not be one party state, we should allow opposition to help in development. Come 2023, PDP will become opposition. Governors Forum, National Assembly leadership are now wiser, more matured as more Governors are joining APC.
“Now PDP is rejoicing by instigating crisis in APC. Deltans definitely are getting tired of PDP. Reconciliation is going on and very soon there will be sanity in APC”
“We are not missing those that defected. We are waiting for implosion of PDP, we are going to harvest. They went there to prepare defection from PDP to APC.
“No dictator in APC except if you are desperate, APC will eases you out. APC has become more formidable, more organized, practice better democracy and does not encourage dictators”.
It would be recall that the PDP Chairman, Esiso, had at the Mega Rally held on Saturday January 22nd 2022, announced the name of Apostle Victor Sorokwu and other APC Chieftains who decamped to PDP.
