The people of Isoko ethnic nationality of Delta south senatorial district, have begun the move to lobby for the governorship to come to them in 2031 after the eight years tenure of Olorogun Barr. Kenneth Gbagi, between 2023 and 2031.
The lobby move was launched on Thursday March 3rd 2022, by Prince Godwin Ogorugba, the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Local Government Area (LGA) Chairman of Isoko north local government area of the state.
The LGA Chairman who was responding to the remarks of the leading governorship aspirant, Olorogun Gbagi, who was in the LGA to consult with delegates ahead of the party primaries, noted that Isoko has respected the senatorial arrangement and they deserve to take the shot instead of their Ijaw counterpart that is currently heating up the polity when it is not yet their turn.
“The Isoko people, we use our tongue to count our teeth and we have interacted with DC-23 and I want to use this medium to congratulate his Excellency, for crossing the first hurdle and come out among the first three.
“The governor of the state, Okowa, took off from where Ibori stopped. I have said it countless times because you must know what you are going there to do. It is not a question of a governor that will litter everywhere with Prado Jeeps whereas the infrastructural facilities are getting decayed.
“And we saw it, the results were shown when he came out of the Senate. If you do well, they will send you again and if you didn’t do well, they will not send you.
“Our turn as Delta South was not well utilized, that is why Warri, is the way it is today. Wike cannot sit down in Port Harcourt and allow Shell and all the companies to pull out of the state, when you are chasing Shell Clinic. I will stay it any day and anytime. They didn’t manage that area very well because creating employment and you are allowing companies to leave your State, is the worst thing any governor can do.
“We pray that no Delta South son will come and perform so bad. It was so bad that this place was 33KVA line, we were reduced to 11KVA and we are suffering today, God will punish them.
“We are now starting afresh and one of the things we discussed with them was if something is working why not we continue in that pattern, because in as much as we are in Delta State, we have over 15 to 20 ethnic groups, if we have gotten it right from Delta central, south and North, the leaders should sit down so that they can resolve that area so that by the next time of where it is going to now, it will be very easy.
“Why the Isoko did not go for it not because we don’t have sons and daughters who do not have that kind of money but we believe that when it comes to our turn, we will know it is our turn. You know we were one before but for administrative convenience, we were separated, you people will support us and stand by us tomorrow.
“We are not doubting your capacity. When you were building Robinson Plaza, there was a lot of propaganda on the social media that it is under the transmission linewire but today, people are trading there and nobody has been burnt to death. The people who are working there are over 100. That is minus 100 poverty.
“You know we Isokos, we are very loyal party men, where the governor say we should go, that is where we will go”, stressing that the interest of the party should be taken care of when Gbagi, enters government house as governor of the state.
He charged him to fulfill his electioneering promises to the people particularly creation of industries and revamping ailing industries across the state so that people would be gainfully employed.
“You must go beyond the rhetorics and hit the ground running. You did it in your private sector. That sane spirit, bring it to the state. A man that could go to Abuja to fight for us, when he is in the State, he will fight for us. If God says you are going to be the governor, no man can stop you, power belongs to God. After your tenure, please, handover to Isoko in 2031”, he added.
Delta south senatorial district is made up of Isoko, Itsekiri and the Ijaw ethnic groups otherwise known as the three (Is) which has produced Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, from the Itsekiri ethnic nationality while the Isoko and the Ijaw are yet to take their turn.
