According to sources, the college of leaders of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in line with the party guidelines, had unanimously endorsed a popular candidate, Mr. Peter Sorokwu, at the party primaries.
The Story, learnt that Mr. Sorokwu, had successfully gone through the screening processes at the local government area and Senatorial levels, after purchasing the single candidate party nomination form sold to concensus candidate of the party as allegedly directed by the state governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa.
However, to the dismay of party leaders in the ward and local government area, the rumour making the rounds revealed that the governor’s father had allegedly ordered the State PDP Chairman, Barr. Kingsley Esiso, to replace Mr. Sorokwu’s name with his relative in the ward, one Paul Ezeenweiwe, who hails from an Ika community.
The Story, gathered that the said Paul Ezeenweiwe had sojourned in South Africa, for several years before returning last year and presently a taskforce member of the Commercial Tricycle Riders Association in Asaba.
Sources said the community has since been in agitation as the purported rumour of imposition filtered into town.
Meanwhile, our sources said the party candidate has urged his supporters to remain calm as leaders of the party in the ward and local government area are on top of the matter to ascertain the truthfulness of the imposition rumour.
When contacted, the Delta State PDP Chairman, Barr. Esiso said, “Can I go to another Council to impose somebody? I am not aware, I have over 500 wards to deal with. It is not possible to know the situation of over 500 wards in my head. It is not possible”, he declared.
Chairman of PDP, Delta North Senatorial District, Chief Moses Iduh, also said he was not aware of the development.
Hear him: “It is not possible for me to know the number of candidates that have emerged in that ward”.
However, Mr. Iduh, failed to state between Peter Sorokwu and Paul Ezeenweiwe, who is the current party candidate for the election.
