Ahead of the 2023 governorship election in Delta state, residents have called for a man who understands business and whose entrepreneurial skills would place the state in an enviable height.
Speaking with The Story Newspaper, a business and community developer, Mr. Henry Okafor, said: “The personality that we need now in Delta state is an entrepreneur, a philanthropist and a man who knows what business is”.
The community development expert, stressed that such a person would be able to create a platform for business to strive, adding, “and that will bring more development to the state”.
Hear him: “From what I have said earlier, Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi, is an entrepreneur, he is a businessman and as an entrepreneur, he should be a man that should wear the cap.
“Seeing his entrepreneurship skills and ability before now, like I do tell people not what one will do but what he has done, I think he is a man that can be able to see through the youth angle and areas of business development. And that is what will really help because we have large numbers, but less employed.
“When the cap falls on a man like Barr. Gbagi, who can create the environment for every business to strive, you will see that everybody will be happy and whenever the people are happy, you have less trouble, that is the truth”.
He called on the philanthropist, Gbagi, to look out for business owners for partnership as obtainable in develop countries in order for them to reach out to the larger society, saying: “Anyone that is going to takeover from Dr. Okowa should extend the hands of fellowship to entrepreneurs , especially those engaged in youth empowerment.”
Also, Augustine Julius, who claimed he has met Olorogun Gbagi, in Ogwashi-Uku, Aniocha south local government area of the state, said: “Gbagi can contest for the governorship, he is qualified to contest. The person I want to take over from Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, should be a man that loves Delta, thinks of the entire state as his constituency and someone that can help the youths”.
He decried the situation where nobody cares about what people are suffering, pointing out: “The youths are drifting apart, they get themselves involved in one crime or the other and it is not good for our development. The youths whom they say are the leaders of tomorrow supposed to have been taken care of in the area of business, education, agriculture and should be encouraged on self-development.”
“I think Gbagi can do so much in that area because I see him as someone developing the youths in his area,” he added.
Another respondent, Adepeju Ogunsanya, a graduate of Business Administration, Ambrose Ali University, Ekpoma, Edo State, said: “I have heard of Kenneth Gbagi, I won’t actually put all my trust in him because we are all humans, we can change and this is politics. I will give it 50:50.”
“Since he knows the youths better, because he is not in government right now, I feel within me that he will help us the youths, most especially, because there is no job. So, he should be of good help. I think I will go for him if I am being asked to.
“Please, he should be able to keep his promises. Whatever he is saying, he should work towards that for a better Delta state and Nigeria. He shouldn’t just come and say things so that the masses can just comply or just vote for him. He should keep to his words and work towards his words too”, she appealed passionately.
Similarly, a hairdresser, who preferred anonymity, said: “I will support the man that is not coming with government’s money, the man who has already made it and has the youths in mind,” she said.
