Obviously, the gentleman accord entered into by the founders, elders and leaders of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), has brought a lasting solution and peace in each electioneering dispensation in Delta State.
The gentleman agreement was what produced Chief James Onanefe Ibori, as governor between 1999- 2007, (Delta Central Senatorial District), Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, between 2007-2015, Delta South Senatorial District) and the incumbent, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa between 2015-2023 (Delta North Senatorial District).
Although, each political year, there seemed to be jostling from the other two senatorial districts, but the unwritten agreement has prevailed, turning into massive victory for the sellable candidate of the party whose Senatorial turn it is to govern the State.
As 2023 approaches, the Okpe and Sapele axis (the Osubi), clamoured for the governorship. They argued that it is their turn to produce the next governor of the state but could not form a lobby group to press home their demands. Thereby collapsing their agitation into the Urhobo agenda.
Unlike the Osubis, Ijaws of Delta South Senatorial District, were able to come out with a lobby group, known as Delta Ijaw for Governor 2023, with a leader, Alaowei Broderick Bozimo.
However, it is crystal clear, that with the gentleman agreement, it is not the turn of the Ijaws as the Governorship goes back to Delta Central Senatorial District for yet another eight years of two terms.
But the anger of the Ijaws, why three of their sons, Comrade Sheriff Mulade, National Coordinator of Center for Peace and Environmental Justice (CEPEJ), the incumbent Deputy Governor, Barr. (Dcn) Kingsley Burutu Otuaro and the Senator representing Delta South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, (NASS), Senator James Manager are into the race is that if truly it is the turn of Delta Central, why should an Isoko man from Delta South Senatorial District, be allowed to join the race?
They argued that some party elders and founding fathers including the leadership of Delta Central 2023, a lobby group headed by the shortest serving Delta Central Senator, Chief Ighoyota Amori and former governor, Chief James Onanefe Ibori, are throwing their weight behind the immediate sacked Commissioner for Finance and Chief of Staff, Government House, Olorogun David Edebvie, who allegedly is from Isoko, Delta South Senatorial District.
According to Cherryl Media, “the entire Edevbie family being from Eyiede in Isoko has frowned at the dubious and disrespectful manner in which David Edevbie forcefully drags the family’s name to the mud especially whenever there is an election because of his selfishness, greed and self centeredness.
“Engr. Dr. Andrew painfully chastised him and sent a warning from USA as an uncle to David Edevbie to repent from continuously embarassing and dragging the entire family name to the mud saying, “David, repent from your falsehood of denying your origin and deceiving people that you are from Urhobo when everybody knows you are an indegene of Eyiede in Isoko” .
“This falsehood of David Edevbie prompted his uncle to ban him from having anything to do with his family as he has caused them a huge embarrassment, disgrace because of his style of get rich quick with Delta state treasury which has landed the entire family in a hunted net since 1999 till date.
“The Engineer in his lamentation also made it clear that, whatever that is pushing David to believe he can bamboozle his way in deceiving the people of Delta and Urhobo to forfeit their rightful slot for him must be from the pit of hell as his greedy and unrepentant attitude to reap from where he sowed nothing will only worsen his case politically just like the same reason he cannot enter London today.
“In the same vein, the entire family and Urhobo historical society members in America frowning at Edevbie’s shameful and deceitful misconduct also sent a warning to his Yoruba wife to call his husband aright as a man who want to go into election to govern his people should go with equity and clean hands not forcefully entering with falsehood which will never take him anywhere in today’s research as social media has no hiding place for criminals.
“He went further to declare his stand even as he disassociates himself from David Edevbie both in messages and calls therefore has nothing to do with him in this world as an Edevbie so long as he continues with his misconduct as the entire family are tired of appeasing and enduring his mess because of his selfishness, greed, get rich quick attitude and misconduct” Cherryl Media, reported.
