…Shun politics of clannishness, Gbagi Tell Delegates

Delta State Chapter of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), has passed a vote of confidence on 2023, frontline governorship hopeful, Olorogun Barr. Kenneth Gbagi, saying when elected governor, he would bring his wealth of knowledge to bear.

Okpe Local Government Area (LGA) Chairman, Hon Efe Uko, stated this on Monday February 14th 2022, while addressing the largest private investor in the state, Olorogun Gbagi, who was on consultative visit to the LGA executives, Ward chairmen and other delegates on his guber ambition.

Uko, who affirmed that Gbagi remains a household name, said his aspiration was not to loot the State treasury but to alleviate poverty, “You are not coming to look for money, you are a man of quality”, he said.

Hear him, “What you have appealed for, we have accepted. All you said are not lies. You are a household name in Delta State. You are not coming to sell yourself. You are a man that is already known. You have made your mark and you are an industrialist”.

The LGA chairman, noted that the race was not met for toddlers, but men whose footprint are on the sand of time, saying: “As a matter of fact, race of this nature is not met for people who managed to come second in a race, “by all classification, you are in the first eleven. So when we see people like you offering yourselves to be governor of Delta State. We count ourselves very lucky because not all those that have the capacity and capability and the spread, are willing to say, I want to come and rule”.

He disclosed that Gbagi’s entrance into the race is to cushion the effect of the suffering allegedly inflicted on Nigerians by the All Progressives Congress (APC) led federal government.

“You are coming now because of the pains in your heart, because of people like us. My delegates and Deltans who are greatly in need of help. So, your coming into the race at this time, is a welcome development.

“If we have the power, you will not campaign but it is God that gives power that is why we say man proposes, God disposes but I can tell you that I am proud of my Excos and the principal officers of the Ward whom by the grace of God are going to be delegates in the next primaries because these are men who can distinguished between what is good and bad and what is good for us and what is not good for us.

“I think we are all very wise because from 2015 to date, we have seen the changes that have taken place in Nigeria. We are convinced that you have the capacity, the spirit, you are a man of vision and an industrialist that can change things in this State.

“When I look at the state, I ask myself, Okowa by next year will be going. If anybody tells you that Okowa is leaving a small shoe, it is lies. Okowa is leaving a very big shoe and Okowa is a man with a large heart and we also need a man with large heart and big legs to fit into that shoe to continue from where he is going to stop because we have said forward ever backwards never.

“And if we say forward ever, then we must look for a man that can fit into that shoe and the seat in all ramifications to move the state forward

Earlier, addressing the 68 delegates and other party stalwarts, the former minister of education, cautioned delegates to shun politics of clannishness.

Hear him: “When it come to election, people become clannish. I have come to beg you people, do not be clannish. Look at all the candidates that will be coming here objectively. Who have what it takes to change our lives from where we are now to a different level?

“That should be your greatest concern and thought. You now know the implication of a bad government even for one day, it is terrible, it comes with hunger. Many of our children have ran away from their parents, looking for greener pastures because they cannot even feed them, that is the implication of bad government”.

Speaking further of what he did as a private and an individual investor in the state, Gbagi revealed: “I have mobbed out thousands of youths from the street and they are sourcing their livelihood from my Plaza, that is what I have been able to do in my private life and capacity.

“Unless you bring your best for this movement that is coming now, you will loose. This matter is a lot more technically serious. I plead with you as delegates, put your votes behind me, the votes you put behind me, is not a lost vote. I will get the ticket of PDP by the grace of God.

“I know the capacity of people who are trying to contest election with me, they are my younger ones, they cannot stand the Iroko and the hurricane that is coming in this election. I have the capacity to transform Delta into an employment hub for youths”, Gbagi, vowed.
