…Set To Retire, Otuaro, Manager, Others For Younger Generation
As the Ijaws of Delta South Senatorial District, Delta State clamour to produce the successor of the incumbent governor of the state, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, the former minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Elder Godsday Orubebe, has warned his kinsmen not to jeopardize the turn of the Ijaws come 2031.
The former minister maintained that the status quo must be respected to pave way for the Urhobo of Delta Central Senatorial District to succeed Okowa, come 2023.
He disclosed that at the time he chested out to take a shot of the governorship, the Ijaws disowned him, warning him not to jeopardize the zoning arrangement as it has been ceded to Delta North Senatorial District.
He revealed that one of his reasons then, was to bring Delta State to international level, “but at that time my people said it is the turn of Delta North, that I have come to scatter the arrangement and they told me it is the turn of the North.
“Today, when I say it is the turn of the Urhobos, they say Orubebe, why are you saying so? It is the turn of the Urhobo people.
“So, Ijaw people will come after eight years and we are going to prepare some of the young men and women here to take over from you”, Orubebe told Olorogun Barr. Kenneth Gbagi, who was at his Ogbobagbene country home in Burutu local government area of the state for a consultative visit.
While calling his kinsmen and others in the race as “Errand boys”, he said “Olorogun Gbagi, you are qualified”.
“I have seen most of the aspirants. The only person that has been in the executive position that has performed is only Kenneth Gbagi, all other rest are either working for somebody, learning from somebody or running errands to people.
“It is only Kenneth Gbagi, who has succeed as a private man in business and who did very well as a minister. When we were ministers, we wanted the best for Nigeria, we made sacrifice for Nigeria, we were not sleeping.
“You cannot take what is not yours and expect that God will bless it for you. If you take what is not your own, you can’t see the hand of God. That is what Nigeria, is going through.
“In this world if you are a man or you are a woman and you cannot speak the truth, you are the destroyer of generations yet unborn.
“Sometimes, I see some leaders even in Delta State and they speak from the two sides of the mouth. And I say are these supposed to be leaders? And that is why Nigeria, is not moving forward and that is why Delta State is not moving forward”, he said.
He assured Gbagi, of his support to enable him succeed as governor, “But some of us will continue to speak the truth. There’s a lot to do and some of us will help you to put things right”.
My dear friend Kenneth Gbagi, you are qualified. You have the character, capacity, commitment, passion to drive this state forward. You can do it. I hope the governor and Deltans will see what I am also seeing.
