DELTA 2023: Olorogun Gbagi Stands Shoulder Tall Among PDP, APC Governorship Aspirants

19
As the clock ticks towards 2023 governorship elections in Delta State, one of the aspirants under the People Democratic Party (PDP), Olorogun Barr. Kenneth Gbagi, has been separated from the “boys” and he is standing shoulder high.

An analysis carried out by one Akporero Akpos, on a WhatsApp group, Nigeria Eagle News online, on a perceived aspirant from the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ovie Omo-Agege, the present Deputy Senate President clearly shows that the pendulum is swinging towards Barr. Gbagi, an industrialist and former minister of Education.

The WhatsApp post which was rebroadcasted by an activist, Zik Gbemre is titled: “RE: DELTA 2023: IS OMO-AGEGE THE MAN TO BREAK THE PDP DOMINANCE IN DELTA STATE?

Read details below:

What exactly is the difference between Omo-Agege and Delta State’s PDP?

Omo-Agege remains a loyalist of James Ibori.

As a loyalist to the existing PDP structure in Delta State, what PDP dominance is Omo-Agege supposedly going to break in Delta State?.

I recently saw the subject post online, which was posted under the WhatsApp platform of a Nigeria Eagle News online stream through this GSM No: +2348034472653, with a caller ID – Akporero Akpos, which I also thought it necessary to comment on.

I do not have anything against Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, as my Urhobo brother, and the truth is that Omo-Agege has performed very well as a true representative of the Urhobos in the Nigerian Senate. He is a strong and energetic young Urhobo Senator who has attracted a higher institution to the Urhobo land of Delta Central in his hometown of Orogun clan in Ughelli North of Delta State.

He has also been commended far and wide, even though he has not been able to pressurize the Federal Government of Nigeria, which is led by President Muhammadu Buhari and the APC his party, to embark on the planned expansion/upgrade of the Osubi-Warri Airstrip located in Delta Central in Urhobo land.

However, the main issue here is, what exactly is the difference between Omo-Agege and the existing PDP in Delta State. What PDP dominance in Delta State is Omo-Agege supposedly going to break, according to the post, when there is apparently no difference between Senator Ovie Omo-Agege and the existing PDP in the State? Let us also bear in mind that It was only just recently that Omo-Agege decamped from the PDP to the ruling APC, as he used Great Ogboru’s  popularity then to step into the Nigerian Senate.

In fact, Ovie Omo-Agege started out in politics by contesting for the ticket to be a representative at the Delta State House of Representatives under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a ticket he lost in the party primaries. In 2003, former Governor James Ibori appointed Omo-Agege as an Executive Assistant, a position he held for two years.

He was later appointed as a Commissioner for Special Duties by Ibori then. Omo-Agege then ran for the office of the Governor of Delta State under the PDP, but lost out at the primaries to former Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan. Omo-Agege was also appointed as the Secretary to the State Government of Delta State by James Ibori in 2007.

He then ran for Senate in 2015 under the platform of the Labour party before he was elected as a Senator representing Delta Central, thanks to Ogboru’s popularity that helped make it happen. But he defected from the Labour Party to the All Progressive Congress (APC) in 2017, where he was re-elected in 2019.

Looking at how he served under the PDP platform in Delta State, in my own opinion, Omo-Agege is a PDP member who is just wearing the clothes of the APC. In other words, Omo-Agege is a direct political product of James Ibori.

He was practically mentored by James Ibori, and he was a key loyalist of Ibori to the core. He also made his political breakthrough and wealth under the Ibori administration. In other words, Omo-Agege and the existing PDP structure in Delta State, are the same thing.

Mind you, James Ibori did not govern Delta State alone. Ibori governed Delta State with his Aides and Commissioners, of which Omo-Agege was one of them then. So, what is the PDP dominance is Omo-Agege going to break?

Like I have repeated before now, James Ibori couldn’t have committed his corrupt practices/money laundering crime without the active collaboration and cooperation of his Commissioners and Aides.

That means, every politician that served under Ibori’s administration between 1999 to 2007, are also faulty/guilty in my layman’s assessment. In fact, if it were to be in other developed countries, every politician under Ibori’s reign in government would also be made to face the music of the law and not just Ibori.

The bottom line is that Omo-Agege is James Ibori’s loyalist. And I challenge any person to prove me wrong in this regard. Omo-Agege served in many capacities under Ibori’s administration of PDP. So, whoever that initiated/posted the subject matter, should have thought twice before doing so.

Senator Ovie Omo-Agege is James Ibori’s loyalist to the core, hence Ibori appointed him to serve in his PDP administration in different capacities. In fact, it is being rumored that Edevbie and Omo-Agege were invited to serve in his PDP administration in Delta State.

These politicians should realize that the majority of Deltans now know better and are wiser, when it comes to seeing them for who they really are.
