As the race of who talks over from the incumbent governor of Delta State, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, takes centre stage, there are indications that the governor is looking the way of Senator James Manager, one of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant who doubles as the Senator representing Delta South Senatorial District in the National Assembly (NASS), come 2023.
A source within the party who spoke to The Story, on condition of anonymity, said Okowa, is also having a plan ‘B’ which is the current Deputy Governor, Barr. Kingsley Burutu Otuaro, in case Manager’s option failed.
According to the source, the promise Okowa purportedly made to the former warlord, Chief Government Ekpemupolo, fondly called Tompolo and tbe Ijaws during his campaigns in 2019, stands.
Asked about Sheriff Oborevwori, the widely acclaimed anointed aspirant, the source said Okowa, would dump him at the last minute to the party’s primaries.
The source disclosed that Okowa, still holds onto Oborevwori, as a result of his Speakership to facilitate approval of loans by the Delta State House of Assembly, alleging that before the expiration of the Okowa-led administration, more loans would be requested for.
The source further revealed that the choice of Olorogun David Edebvie, the preferred aspirant of the former governor of the, Chief James Onanefe Ibori, has been a born on Okowa throat.
Our source revealed that Ibori had stormed the National party Secretariat where he cautioned the national chairman of the party, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, of eminent danger and collapse of the party, should Edebvie, is not allowed to fly the ticket of the party.
Our source, said Okowa, had also assured the National Chairman that he would deliver the state for PDP come 2023 if he is allowed to pick his successor.
The party source disclosed that Okowa, has mapped out plans to edge out all Ibori’s allies including his daughter, Hon. Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, from emerging as the candidate for Ethiope Federal Constituency for Ben Ibakpa.
The source equally hinted Okowa, would used John Nani, for Delta Central Senatorial District, against Senator Ighoyota Amori, who is also Ibori’s strong supporters.
Meanwhile, our source added that the governor, is chopping for a Deputy Governor in the person of his immediate past Chief of Staff, Festus Ovie Agas.
Our source hinted that the governor knows that Agas, would not be able to stand the opposition, hence he is preparing him for the office of the second in command.
