Delta State House of Assembly (DTHA), Speaker, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has allegedly escape impeachment, The Story can authoritatively report.
The trouble of Oborevwori, one of the three gubernatorial aspirants cleared by the Delta Central (DC-23), lobby group, started when he joined the race.
It was gathered that the move to impeach the Speaker thickened when he started seeing himself as a demigod among his colleagues in the House.
It was gathered that after the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Mega Rally held at the Cenotaph, on 22nd January 2022, lawmakers started perfecting plans to throw out the Speaker.
The impeachment move is coming barely about a month after the Chairman, House Committee on Works, Hon (Engr) Emeka Nwaobi, said members of the state legislature are solidly in support of the gubernatorial ambition of the Speaker.
It was gathered that the House adjourned plenary for two weeks after the Mega Rally and another one week after the move to remove Oborevwori, from his seat leaked.
Our source disclosed that the impeachment attempt was unsuccessful as it didn’t have the backing of the State governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, who is alleged to be the backbone of the Speaker in the governorship race.
Another source who confided in The Story, revealed that the move to sack the Speaker is still very fresh as the governorship ambition of the Speaker has divided the House along political interest.
The source said plans have been jacked up by lawmakers who felt the Speaker is not a good governorship material to rule the State.
“Plans are still on to remove the Speaker. I was somewhere when some top politicians discussed the impeachment move. I am very sure that Oborevwori, might be impeached even though the governor is the one behind him”, the source alleged.
At press time, WhatsApp message sent to the Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Dennis Otu, was not replied.
