Wife of the Delta State Governor, Dame Edith Okowa, made the call on Tuesday 23rd March 2021, when wives of the newly elected local government Chairmen from the 25 local government areas in the state paid her a familiarization visit at the First Lady’s office in Government House, Asaba.
The governor’s wife while congratulating the womem on their husbands’ victory in the just concluded local government elections in the state, charged them to realise the purpose why they are there and impact the lives of the people at the grassroot level.
Dame Okowa urged them to key into her pet Project, the 05′ Initiative, disclosing that through the project 15 sickle cell clinics has been built in the state while various humanitarian programmes have been embarked on.
She encouraged the women to be role models to other women, and stop pulling their fellow women down.
The First Lady further enjoined them to work together and generate ideas that would be helpful to their husbands, even in their current positions.
She siezed the opportunity to also applaud women for having more interest in politics as 17 women emerged vice-chairmen and 86 as councillors in the just concluded March 6 local government elections.
Wife of the Chairman, Uvwie local government area, Onoyake Rachael, who spoke on behalf of the Chairpersons, extended her appreciation to the Her Excellency while promising continued collaboration to ensure that women at the grassroot are fully carried along.
“We appreciate how you welcomed us and are equally grateful for what you’ve been doing for Delta women and we assure you that we will work with you to ensure that the positive developments you have initiated continue”, she said.
The women unanimously thanked Dame Okowa for her efforts at ensuring that women at the grassroot level are always empowered through her 05 Initiative.
