In a dramatic escalation of political tensions, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former Governor of Rivers State, has declared that current Governor Siminalayi Fubara deserves impeachment.
Wike’s statement came on Friday February 28, 2025, shortly after the Supreme Court upheld the reinstatement of the Martin Amaewhule-led faction of the Rivers State House of Assembly, a group loyal to Wike.

The court’s ruling also directed the Central Bank of Nigeria to withhold Rivers State’s federal allocations until the state budget is presented to the reinstated lawmakers.
This development intensifies the ongoing power struggle between Fubara and Wike, raising questions about the future governance of Rivers State.
