Former President, Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Worldwide, Roland Oweilaemi Pereotubo, has said that the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in Burutu local government area would not allow strangers direct its affairs.
Oweilaemi, a legal practitioner, stated this when members of Burutu Credibility Front led by Elder Darlington Owan, paid him a consultative visit at his Warri residence.
Spokesperson for the group, Ayoromiegha Welemu Williams, in his presentation, commended the Senior Special Assistant to the State Governor, for being an epitome of true leadership and sacrifice to the Ijaw course.
The BCF particularly expressed disdain towards calls for the Burutu Federal Constituency seat to be zone in the 2023 elections.
Reacting to the calls for zoning the legislative seat currently occupied by Julius Pondi, he said the party ‘will not allow strangers infiltrate its ranks.’
Describing the demands for zoning as ‘dead on arrival, he wondered how any individual can imagine they could change the status quo of how candidates are elected from outside the PDP.
“Even the blind knows that Burutu is entirely a PDP zone and I wonder how anybody can imagine they can dictate the political atmosphere from outside the party.
“Who else can dictate the affairs of Burutu politics if not the PDP,” he questioned.
Oweilaemi assured that the “PDP will do everything it could to ensure that outsider and opposition don’t infiltrate our ranks”.
He said that the “PDP has always judged candidates on credibility and on how much of quality representation they can bring to the table and not zoning.”
The former Secretary to Burutu local government further threw his weight behind the demand by the BCF that a minimum two commissioners slots be allotted to Burutu going forward.
The ECOWAS Youth Ambassador also commended the group for making credibility its watchword, charging that the message for right leadership preceded by a free and fair elections be spread further.
The debate for who occupies the Green Chambers for Burutu Federal Constituency has gathered momentum in recent weeks.
While incumbent representative, Julius Pondi is yet to officially declare for a third term, the Burutu Council Chairman, Godknows Angele has officially declared his intention to contest the polls.
Also, a former occupant of the seat, Frank Enekorogha, who lost the seat to Pondi in 2015, has declared to contest the seat for a fourth time.
