…makes 3 major demands on SDP candidates
The current democratic system of government otherwise known as federalism (federal system of government), in Nigeria, has been described the as most Corruptible system of government ever.
His Royal Majesty (HRM), Dr. (Ovie) R.L. Ogbon, Ogoni-Oghoro 1, the Owhorode of Olomu Kingdom in Ughelli south local government area of Delta State, said “Personally, I have observed many things in the present system of government.
“Today, the type of system of government known as democratic system, I hate it, I don’t like it, compared with Parliamentarian system started in this country”.
The 105 year old king adjudged to be the world’s oldest king, made his observations known when the leading governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Olorogun Barr. Kenneth Gbagi, the National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, governorship, House of Representatives and House of Assembly candidates of the party from various states visited the revered king at his palace.
Said he: “Too much corruption in the system and somebody came out that he is going to fight corruption. How do you fight it? At your domain, people are receiving bribe, if you are not receiving it all, people are giving.
“And a few people have the wealth of the country concentrated in their hands while the majority is wallowing in poverty and dying having no food to eat.
“A system where people hate one another and kill people because of positions. What type of system is this. In America where you copied this, it is not like this. Democratic system of government is not practiced the way we are doing it in Nigeria.
“Many people complain about this democratic system. You remember when we have Parliamentary, the three regions before Midwest was created on census, each and everyone of them worked to excel and do things for themselves that was while Owolowo was the Premier, they did a lot of work particularly education.
*The children of the indigent people were able to enjoy free education at that time. The products of modern schools are far better than some of the graduates of today. Education has fallen woefully” the Owhorode, said.
He appealed to candidates of the Social Democratic Party, to return to the Parliamentarian system of government when they assume office as it is the most credible form of government that guarantees the future of the country.
Hear him: ‘Your party is going to get officers who are going to be in charge of State and so forth. I want you to listen to this so that if you can effect some good changes, then your party will continue to grow
“I beg you my children, if you have come to the ruling position, think of these things. I want you people to think and go back to the Parliamentary system, it is no retrogression people may say”.
Meanwhile, the Owhorode who doubles as the chairman of Urhobo Traditional rulers, advocated for a constitutional roles for the traditional institutions across the country as they are the custodian of the custom of their people.
He also demanded that the dwindling standard of education generally in the country should be tackled by the presidential candidate of the party when he assumes office as president of the federal republic of Nigeria.
The unwavering monarch requested the party to return the country to the Parliamentary system of government when it has won the 2023 presidential election.
According to him, you know before ever the advent of the Colonia Masters, our people has a systematic administration everywhere under the leadership of the traditional rulers, describing them as the “Grassroot Chief Security Officers”, in the various areas.
“Traditional rulers have the sway, they administer their people justly even when the Colonia Masters, they took them to join them to administer the areas.
“But with this system, the powers of the traditional rulers have been so eroded that people they even think that they are traditional rulers, they are not given their die respect.
“So my sons, if you go into power, we want you to create a place for the traditional rulers. We are the grassroot Chief Security Officers. Without traditional rulers even today, the whole country could be worst”, he added.
In his prayers for the candidates, Owhorode, who is equally an Ordained Canon in the Anglican Communion, pleaded with God for them to become victorious in the forthcoming election in their various states.
“O God listen to their prayers and grant them their heart desires. I also pray for you that God will grant you good health, wisdom and understanding and patience in addition to enable you administer whatever office you are going to occupy.
“Father O God, we pray that these people should learn to put you first in whatever they are going to do so that you will listen to them. You have been answering our prayers, we still believe that you are going to do miracles through these people so that at the end of the exercise, known as the election when they must have gotten their heart desires, we will give thanks to you”.
