Our attention has been drawn to a purported adoption of Jeremi zone for State Constituency Seat for another term, that’s third term bid by some individuals.
We wish to condemn and reject that exercise in its entirety. This action by some factional Leaders in the Local Government is capable of causing disaffection, disunity and capable of breaching the peace enjoyed amongst the Local. They do not represent the collective will of the people.
For clarity, Ughelli South Local Government has three zones namely, Ewu, Jeremi and Olomu respectively. And the House of Assembly seat has been moving round on the basis of these three zones as the case of the Governorship in the State.
Recall that in 1999, Late Senator Pius Ewherido from Ewu Zone was elected to represent the constituency between 1999-2007, in 2007 the position moved to Olomu and Hon Talib Tebite clinch the ticket and he represented the constituency from 2007-2015 and thereafter the position was moved to Jeremi Zone from 2015-till date.
For Emphasis, in 2014 the then incumbent member Hon. Talib Tebite canvassed for a third term as the Jeremi people are currently lobbying now but he was resisted and compelled to step down which he did because he understood the conventional arrangement that Olomu had completed their two terms.Ewu people were at the fore- front of that struggle not minding that it wasn’t their turn. This we all know that Tebite would have coast home to victory.
On the Agitation of Jeremi as an independent constituency, it should be noted that upon the creation of Ughelli South Local Government in 1991, the defunct NADECO created two constituencies for the LGA with Ewu-Olomu as constituency 1 and Agbarho-Jeremi as constituency 11, but sometimes in 1997 Agbarho decided to join Ughelli North citing injustice and Marginalization and this automatically put Ughelli South to a Single constituency as INEC then scrab the second constituency. The lies and cooked stories that Jeremi has been an independent constituency are fallacies of contradictions and lies taken too far.
We equivocally state here that Ughelli South had a Single constituency if otherwise, those that are peddling these lies should tell us the member representing the second constituency apart from Hon. Reuben Izeze. We also Wish to reiterate our position that no zone is more special than the other, nothing that Ewu has been so supportive to other zones.
We call on the state Leadership of the People’s Democratic Party and the State Governor to prevail on the Jeremi and other Zones to step aside in the contest that fairness, justice and Equity has always been our Hallmark.
Against all odds, this impunity and broad day robbery shall not stand and Ewu Zone shall come out strong and Victorious.
We call on Jeremi and Olomu Zones to support the Ewu Assembly bid as the conventional Arrangement in the Local Government have been given the Party victory in all polls and this order should not be toyed with.
Finally, it’s the turn of Ewu to produce the next House of Assembly member as the two terms of Jeremi elapse in 2023. We can’t afford to wait for 24years.
