One of the vibrant aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC), for the Delta State House of Assembly (DTHA), election come 2023, Barr. Matthew Omonade, has vowed to be committed to the people if voted in than to make insignificant promises that cannot be kept.
Commitment is dedication to a cause or an activity. It is the act of binding oneself (intellectually or emotionally) to a course of action. It is a pledge and a pledge must be fulfilled. Commitment is the trait of sincerity to one’s promises through actions and steadfast fixity of purpose and that’s what Omonade represents”, he said.
Barr. Omonade, who is gunning for Ughelli North State Constituency 1, inna post on his verified Facebook page, said “Yes, only commitment to what he, Barrister Omonade believes in could have brought him this far and will take him further on. When you see his commitment, you see what and whom he values and these values are his identity”.
Some time ago, while addressing a team of young leaders, he advised, “When you make a promise that you know you can’t deliver on, you damage and potentially destroy people’s trust in your word.
Groups that support you, even those close to you and who believe you’re doing your best, may no longer take you for your words.
So, it is better you make commitments, rather than fruitless and barren promises.”
In that advice, Barrister Omonade pointed out one fundamental principle a leader must adhere to, “commitment”.
Commitment in leadership is far more important and more powerful than promises. A leader can make promises, yet may act with no commitment; whereas, it’s commitment and not promises which generate results. When a leader is committed to the pre-set goal, even without words of promise, tangible results are achieved.bCommitment is action; whereas, promises are mere words.
