It was a morning of fitness, faith, and purpose as the Wife of the Governor of Delta State and Founder of the You Matter Charity Foundation, Her Excellency, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, led hundreds of women and supporters in a health and wellness initiative tagged “You Matter Walk for Life.”

The colourful event, held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, commenced at the Inter-Bau Roundabout in Asaba and saw participants trek through the Anwai–Illah Road to the Office of the First Lady at the New Government House, Asaba.

Targeting 10,000 steps per participant, the walk featured aerobic sessions, praise and worship, and moments of prayer and reflection.

In her remarks, Deaconess Oborevwori explained that the You Matter Walk for Life was designed to promote healthy living, spiritual renewal, and social connection among women and families across Delta State.

She described the event as “both a fitness challenge and a movement of purpose,” aimed at inspiring collective wellness and transformation.

“The goal of today’s walk is to achieve 10,000 steps! We reach this by multiplying our individual effort one step at a time, walking together in unity and with a shared sense of purpose,” she said.

The Governor’s wife further emphasized the importance of maintaining a healthy body and spirit, noting that “a healthy body gives us the strength, clarity, and confidence to pursue our goals and fulfill our divine purpose.”

Citing 1 Timothy 4:8, she urged participants to combine physical exercise with prayer for total transformation, adding that true wellness encompasses the physical, emotional, and spiritual dimensions of life.

Deaconess Oborevwori commended the women for their massive turnout, describing it as a reflection of their unity, enthusiasm, and commitment to supporting one another and the development vision of the state.

She also expressed appreciation to the Federal Road Safety Corps, fitness instructors, and the Government House Chaplaincy for ensuring the event’s success through effective coordination, safety supervision, and spiritual guidance.

“We have prayed, stretched, danced, and celebrated in the spirit of togetherness. My prayer is that we all return home healthier, stronger, and happier than we came,” she added.

Assuring that the You Matter Walk for Life would become a regular event, the First Lady promised an even bigger and more impactful edition in the future.

In a brief exhortation, the Chaplain of the Government House Chapel, Venerable Charles Osemene, urged participants to embrace humility, unity, and service to God and humanity.

Speaking on behalf of the women, Mrs. Timiebi Guwor, wife of the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, expressed gratitude to the Governor’s wife for her “motherly love, inspiration, and tireless commitment to the well-being of Delta women.”

She prayed for God’s grace and strength upon Deaconess Oborevwori to continue her charitable works and to support her husband, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, in advancing the state’s development agenda.

The event concluded with prayers for peace, health, and progress in Delta State, as jubilant women celebrated the success of the maiden edition of the You Matter Walk for Life.
