…Urges Chief Omene to join hands with PG Gam for the interest of Urhobo nation
The overall progress of Urhobo Progress Union, UPU, remain the collective responsibility of Urhobo sons and daughters, home and abroad, through various positions, professions and imfluence at various levels.
Special Adviser to the President General, UPU worldwide, Olorogun Fred Oghenesivbe made the assertion in a statement on Thursday, and made available to newsmen.
He appealed to all past president generals and prominent Urhobo leaders to always offer genuine advise that would assist the incumbent President General, Chief Ese Gam Owe Esq, and his team to deliver on their mandate of moving Urhobo nation forward.
Oghenesivbe noted that the Union is making tremendous progress under the leadership of Chief Gam Owe, noting that the Union has been peaceful and well coordinated as against petty squabbles and media warfare that characterized the union before Chief Gam took over the mantle of leadership.
He frowned at the practice where some past leaders of the Union criticize the incumbent PG on social media and on pages of newspapers, pointing out that other sociocultural organisations in Delta State and across the country, do not engage in open confrontations, but rather come together behind closed doors to cross fertilize ideas, agree and disagree to arrive at a consus, but not via the media.
Oghenesivbe urged Past President General of UPU worldwide, Chief Joe Orode Omene, to deploy his wealth of experience for the service of humanity and Urhobo nation by offering genuine advise to the incumbent PG and his executives behind closed doors, pointing out that the Union and Urhobo Nation cannot afford to revert to the fruitless old practice of open confrontations and self Serving media warfare.
On the issue of female President of UPU Canada, Oghenesivbe said the Union Constitution on election matters must not be jettisoned, and that open discrimination against women in the union should not be repugnant to natural justice, equity and good conscience, so as not to infringe on relevant sections of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as amended, especially the sections that has to do with fundamental rights and freedom of choice.
He assured that the UPU Canada electoral matter will not in any way divide the Union, either in Canada or anywhere in the world, noting that the incumbent President General of the Union worldwide, Chief Ese Gam Owe Esq, is a seasoned legal practitioner with high integrity, versed in Law and the Constitution of the Union, and to that extent would do the needful to ensure that the Union remain strong, United and making steady progress at all times.
“The consistent progress of UPU worldwide is the collective responsibility of all sons and daughters of Urhobo nation, home and abroad, and that includes royal fathers, prominent Urhobo leaders, past PGs and serving executive members of the Union.
“PG Gam Owe cannot do it alone, we must all rally around him, offer genuine advise and mobilize our people to make Urhobo nation stronger and greater.
“As a people ready to make great impact, We must do away with media warfare and open confrontations. Urhobo is making steady progress at this time, and it is only fair for all hands to be on deck to move our ethnic nationality forward.
“PG GAM ‘s administration has recorded significant progress, especially in the areas of effective coordination and synergy. Urhobo nation is very peaceful and the Union is in good standing.
“We must never again go back to the era of petty squabbles, while we abstain completely from statements that divide us.
“I respectfully appeal to Chief Joe Orode Omene, past PG Worldwide of UPU to offer genuine advise that would assist the incumbent PG Worldwide of the Union and his team, not via the media, but privately and behind closed doors.
“We cannot afford to have two PGs at the same time. PG GAM Is the man in the saddle and he’s doing a great job. There is room for improvement, no doubt, which is why we must support him and his team to move Urhobo nation to greater heights.
“Chief Omene is a respected leader of Urhobo extraction, and his actions and inactions must always reflect his status and experience. I urge him to continue to work with other leaders of Urhobo nation devoid of media warfare and open confrontations.
“Let’s share the Urhobo love through our individual contributions to the advancement of our common course, anchored on peace, Unity and collective responsibility,” Oghenesivbe said.
