… Chief Okporoko says, “We are the real grassroots, the time has come for true leaders to be recognized”
It was a charged atmosphere of renewed political commitment and solidarity as members of the Ughelli South United Forum gathered in Ughelli South at the weekend to reaffirm their loyalty and unwavering support for the reelection of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, come 2027.
In a rousing speech, Chairman of the Forum, Chief Godwin Okporoko, declared that the group, comprising true grassroots politicians across the wards of Ughelli South, remains the engine room of electoral victory in the area.
“The major stake for us is to ensure that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori return to office in 2027,” Chief Okporoko said.
“In Ughelli South politics, ward by ward, without these people you see here, no ward can win. We are the ones doing the work on the ground.”
Chief Okporoko emphasized that while some politicians operate from the comfort of Asaba, the real mobilizers who secure votes live and work among the people in their communities.
“Those who go to Asaba are merely informed about what we have already delivered,” he said pointedly.
“After elections, many of them who get appointments forget those who did the hard work. But that era is over. The real leaders are now here in Ughelli South.”
He called for fairness and recognition of the forum’s efforts, stressing that the group would ensure inclusivity in political appointments and opportunities.
“Those who already have appointments will not get it again within the remaining two years of this administration. This time, it will go to our loyal members who have not been considered before,” Okporoko assured.
“Our women and men have served long enough; we cannot continue to serve others forever. It is time we are recognized as the leaders that we truly are.”
Chief Okporoko also reaffirmed the Forum’s commitment to Governor Oborevwori, recalling that the governor once lamented disappointment from some parts of Delta Central in the 2023 elections.
“We want to assure His Excellency that Ughelli South will never disappoint him again. We will give him 100 percent votes in 2027,” he vowed.
“We are fully working with President Tinubu and Governor Oborevwori directly, and we only seek that our group be duly recognized for the hard work we are doing.”
According to him, the Forum is not a rival faction but a united grassroots force determined to strengthen the political structure in Ughelli South and ensure inclusive governance.
“We are not fighting anybody,” he clarified. “The elders have their work, the leaders have theirs, and the youths have theirs. Our mission is simple, deliver votes and protect the interest of Ughelli South.”
Chief Okporoko maintained that the Forum operates on self-sponsorship and unity of purpose, noting that members are committed to funding their activities and supporting credible candidates across all elective positions.
“In this forum, nobody will bring money as our financier. We will sponsor ourselves. If you want to contest for any position, from House of Assembly upwards, you must come through this group, except the President and Governor who are our major focus,” he declared confidently.
The meeting, which drew about 75 participants, witnessed the presence of prominent political figures, including Barr. Edewor Omonemu, Chief Dumasi Ejiro Mosheshe, Engr. Agboro Joseph, Madam Susan Omeru, Mr. Robinson Onokahweri, and Mrs. Ghereje Beatrice, former PDP LGA Woman Leader.
In his remarks, Chief Vincent Oduaran commended the gathering for their unity, loyalty, and dedication to the growth of the Forum, urging continued collaboration to consolidate Ughelli South’s political influence ahead of the 2027 polls.
