Taraba State has taken a significant step toward becoming a major hub for dairy production in Nigeria, as Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas on Friday, April 10, 2026, received the Minister of Livestock Development, Alhaji Idi Muktar Meya, at the Government House in Jalingo.

The Minister led a high-level delegation, including representatives of Pure Dairy Herd, a leading dairy company, on an exploratory visit aimed at assessing the viability of establishing a Livestock Academy and a modern dairy farm in the state.

Addressing the Governor during the visit, Alhaji Meya explained that the delegation was in Taraba to present its development blueprint and explore strategic partnerships that would position the state as a leader in dairy production.

He noted that Taraba was selected due to its abundant livestock population, expansive grazing reserves, and fertile land, factors that make it highly suitable for large-scale dairy operations.

Governor Kefas, in his response, expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for considering Taraba State for such a transformative initiative.

He emphasized that the state’s rich agricultural assets, particularly its vast cattle population and grazing potential, provide a solid foundation for advancing livestock development and dairy production nationwide.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment, the Governor assured the delegation of the state government’s full support, including the provision of a secure and enabling environment for the successful implementation of the project.

Also speaking during the visit, a dairy production expert and member of the delegation, Mr. Gavel Don, outlined practical strategies through which the proposed academy and dairy enterprise could significantly enhance revenue generation for both Taraba State and the national economy.

Other members of the delegation highlighted the economic and developmental benefits of the project, describing it as a catalyst for job creation, skills development, and agricultural transformation.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Taraba State Livestock Development Commission described the proposed initiative as a landmark opportunity that could redefine the state’s agricultural landscape and strengthen its position in Nigeria’s livestock sector.
