Governor of Taraba State, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has called on all Tarabans to join hands with his administration in building a stronger, more prosperous state.

Speaking during a roundtable discussion with journalists at the EXCO Chambers, TY Danjuma House, Jalingo, Governor Kefas emphasized the importance of synergy, collaboration, and mutual understanding between government and citizens.

He noted that his administration is committed to being a “partner in progress” with the people in order to accelerate development across the state.

“When I assumed office, there was very little to show for over 30 years of the creation of this state. That is why we immediately prioritized education by declaring a free education policy.

We selected 60 schools for standardization in line with best practices to deliver quality education and ensure all school-aged children are enrolled in school,” he explained.

Governor Kefas reaffirmed that his leadership is people-oriented, stressing that he did not come into office to fight anyone but to serve the people.

He said this was the reason he has been convening town hall meetings across the local government areas, giving citizens the opportunity to voice their needs and enabling government to prioritize projects accordingly.

“I know people call me ‘Star Boy’ and ‘Father Promise.’ Even God makes promises that are fulfilled in due time, so whatever I promise, I will do,” he assured.

On infrastructure, the Governor lamented the burden of inherited debts, particularly from the flyover and dual carriageway project left unpaid by the immediate past administration.

He revealed that despite settling the contractor in hopes of securing federal reimbursement, his expectations were slim given the challenges faced as an opposition-led state.

“People are complaining about road construction, but starting October, you will see earth-moving equipment at work. I don’t want to start projects and abandon them, only for people to say I ran away with the money. Resources are limited, but we will deliver,” he said.

Governor Kefas also appreciated constructive criticism from citizens, describing it as motivation to act swiftly and correct lapses.

He narrated a personal encounter in which he heard a radio report about the lack of drugs at the state Specialist Hospital.

Promptly turning back from his journey, he visited the hospital unannounced, confirmed the situation, and immediately released funds for drugs to be distributed free of charge.

He further disclosed that he had ordered a CT scan machine to address critical equipment gaps at the facility.

He urged Tarabans to be patient, promising that his administration would leave a lasting legacy before the end of his first term.

“My pledge is to make Taraba a state to behold, a place every citizen will be proud of,” the Governor concluded.
