The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has named Mr. Fred Edoreh, former Chairman of its Lagos Chapter and current Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for Special Recognition as part of activities marking the association’s 60th anniversary celebration.
In a notification letter signed by the National Secretary of SWAN, Mr. Ikenna Okonkwo, the association stated that the honour is in acknowledgment of Edoreh’s exceptional professionalism, leadership, and enduring service to the advancement and integrity of sports journalism in Nigeria.
“Over the years, your commitment, mentorship, and passion have inspired generations of journalists and enriched the nation’s sporting narrative.
“This recognition is a token of appreciation for your sacrifices and legacy in promoting excellence, fairness, and credibility in sports reporting,” the letter read in part.
Fred Edoreh, who served as both Secretary and later two-time Chairman of the Lagos Chapter, is widely celebrated within national and international sports journalism circles for his innovative leadership and transformational initiatives that strengthened the association’s operations and visibility.
Among his notable achievements are the completion and furnishing of the Lagos SWAN Secretariat, the introduction of sustainable marketing and revenue strategies, the establishment of the Lagos SWAN City Estate, and the fostering of institutional partnerships with both public and private sector organizations.
He also championed capacity-building programmes for members at the Nigerian Institute of Journalism and the Lagos Business School, while promoting unity and team spirit through various social and professional engagements.
The SWAN 60th Anniversary and Awards Night is scheduled to hold on October 31, 2025, at the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, where Mr. Edoreh and other distinguished honourees will be celebrated for their contributions to the profession and the development of Nigerian sports.
