Nigeria’s national women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, paid a courtesy visit to Senator Ned Munir Nwoko, Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Sports Development and Chancellor of the Sports University of Nigeria, in Abuja on Tuesday.

The meeting was filled with mutual admiration as Senator Nwoko lauded the team’s extraordinary achievements, describing their recent victory at the FIBA Women’s AfroBasket 2025 as a defining moment for Nigerian sports.

D’Tigress defeated Mali on Sunday night in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, securing their fifth consecutive AfroBasket title, a feat unmatched by any African team.

“Your victory is not only a triumph for Nigeria but a powerful statement about the potential of women in sports,” Senator Nwoko stated. “You have made history and inspired millions.”

He emphasized that the team’s consistent performance underscores the importance of sustained investment in grassroots and elite sports development.

The Senator reaffirmed his commitment to using his legislative platform to champion increased funding, better infrastructure, and policy reforms that promote athletic excellence, especially among women.

D’Tigress, who arrived in Abuja on Monday via two chartered flights, have been celebrated nationwide for their dominance on the court.
