Filers reaching The Story, has it that the Force Headquarters of the Nigerian Police Force, Abuja has allegedly detained two government aides of Edo and Delta states for the past five days over yet to be substantiated offences.
A source gave the names as Godstime Ogidigba Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Edo state governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, on Waterways and Daniel Ezekiel, Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Delta State governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, on Security Matters.
They were arrested following a surrogate petition by Inikorogha community in Edo state which was allegedly orchestrated by an ex-militant leader in the community.
The petitioners alleged that the duo came to the community with fire arms to fight them, an allegation that had been debunked by the duo before they were arrested.
According to the government officials, they didn’t go to the community but only went to check a compliance on the directive of the governor of Edo State, disbanding vigilante activities in the community at a security post in the area when the suspected ex-militant leader ordered his boys to fire several shot at them.
Comrade Ezekiel who is maternally from the area had been reportedly fighting injustice meted out on law-abiding citizens in the community and its environ by a suspected ex-militant leader and his cohorts.
A source hinted that the petitioners took firearm to the force headquarters Abuja to alleged them of unlawful possession of firearm as to send them to jail.
An impeccable source who pleaded on the condition of anonymity said the police had admitted the exhibit and they would be arraigned in court tomorrow April 22 in Benin, Edo State.
But it is not clear whether such exhibit which was not recovered by the police or which source is still unknown could be relied upon or admitted in court of law as an exhibit against the accused persons as it is possible that the petitioners could manipulate it.
However, the families of the duo had earnestly appealed to their employers to prevail against the suspected move by the ex-militant leader to send them to jail for opposing his alleged criminal activities in the community.
At press time, calls put across to the cellphone of the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, were rebuffed.
Efforts by The Story, to get the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Edo State Command, DSP Kontongs Bello, failed as text message sent to his cellphone was not replied while calls put across to his phone displayed “call forwarded” at press time.
Also, The Story, could not reach one of the accused, the SSA to Governor Okowa on Security Matters, Comrade Daniel Ezekiel, for comments as his phone was switched off when contacted.
