Three suspected kidnappers have been killed in a shootout with police in the rescue of the abducted wife of Benue State Commissioner for Land and Survey Mrs. Ann Unenge.
Mrs. Unenge was abducted on Thursday evening with her driver in Makurdi last week.
She spent five nights with her educators while the abductors demanded N51m on Saturday.
But on Monday, a police crack team trailed the kidnappers to their hideout at Nyiman Layout and killed three suspects.
Police spokesperson Kate Anene said Mrs. Unenge and one other person were rescued unhurt while one loaded Ak47 rifle and two double-barrel guns were recovered from the suspects.
The PPRO said the victims had gunshot wounds during the kidnap but were receiving treatment at Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi.
She said five suspects were arrested.
An apartment said to be used by kidnappers at BIPC Quarters, Nyiman Layout, Makurdi was demolished following a directive by Governor Samuel Ortom.
