The Federal Capital Territory FCT Police Command has paraded seven suspects over sundry criminal activities within the territory and vowed to tackle and prevent any form of crime in the nation’s capital.
One of the suspects is a fake Wing Commander, Jack Bemdoo donning Nigerian Airforce uniform, who confessed that he has used the uniform to defraud several unsuspecting members of the public.
The suspect, 32-year-old Bemdoo who was arrested at Durumi Park on 1st August 2021 after surveillance for impersonating as personnel of the Nigeria Airforce disclosed that he used the Airforce kit he acquired illegally to intimidate, extort money from frightened members of the public.
New FCT Police Commissioner, Mr. Sunday Babaji who made this known while parading eight (8) criminal suspects in his maiden meeting with the media stated that the suspect will be arraigned in court upon conclusion of investigation.
He called on FCT residents, other stakeholders and the media to aid the fight against crimes within the FCT and assured that he will consolidate on the legacies of his predecessors in office.
Other suspects include Usman Abdullahi, 37 and Sanusi Adamu, 30, both males who are residents of Mpape and Masaka in the territory.
They were arrested for theft of electricity high tension cables along Shere-Bwari in the city and exhibits recovered from them are over 20 yards of high tension aluminum cables.
Also paraded is one Justice Ezeogu, 36, with six bags of dried leaves suspected to be marijuana along Nyanya in the FCT.
He was said to have confessed to being a merchant of Indian hemp and will be handed over the relevant agencies for prosecution.
Ndifreke Samuel, 36, of Area 1 for one-chance robbery, was also said to have met his waterloo when attempting to rob a victim of a Toyota Corolla with a sharp knife.
Michael Itopa, 24, was also said to have robbed his victim in Garki Abuja, arrested while trying to escape with a toy gun as an exhibit.
Two other suspects are Ebuba Mbani, 33, and Sunday Atu, 26, who were cultists and members of a group known as the black movement of Africa.
The senior police officer had noted that security is everyone’s business and the Police Command should synergise with the FCT Administration, sister security agencies and community stakeholders to nip crime in the bud within the city.
He said: “I will consolidate on the legacies of my predecessor by ensuring that we enhance proactive intelligence-based crime-fighting strategies to nip crimes in the bud within the FCT.
“Without mincing words, I want to state categorically that no criminal elements will be tolerated within the FCT, hence anyone with criminal intentions should either repent or be prepared to face the full wrath of the law.”
The Commissioner of Police assured the media and the public that the suspects will be arraigned in nation’s courts of law upon the conclusion of their investigations.
