An Anambra-based member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Jennifer Edema Elohor, has recounted her harrowing ordeal after she was brutally assaulted by members of a vigilante group in the state.

Narrating her experience on Thursday, Jennifer said what began as an ordinary trip from the market quickly turned into a nightmare.

She was allegedly stopped and interrogated by vigilante operatives, who accused her of misconduct despite identifying herself as a corps member.

“They accused me of things I didn’t do. Before I knew it, they descended on me, beating me and calling me names. I kept shouting that I was a corps member, but they wouldn’t listen,” she said, recalling the shocking moment.

Jennifer, who sustained visible injuries, said she believed the attack was deliberate.

“I don’t know why they picked on me, but I feel it was intentional. If not for passers-by who intervened, I don’t know what would have happened,” she added.

The disturbing incident has sparked outrage among corps members and residents alike, with many condemning the actions of the vigilantes as “excessive, unprovoked, and a gross abuse of authority.”

In reaction, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) strongly condemned the assault, describing the conduct of the vigilante operatives as “unacceptable” and calling for immediate accountability.
