Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has called on Swedish investors to explore the vast investment opportunities available in Delta State, highlighting the state’s peaceful environment, strategic location, and abundant natural resources as key drivers for high returns on investment.

Governor Oborevwori made this appeal while receiving the Swedish Ambassador to Nigeria, Annika Hahn-Englund, and her delegation during a courtesy visit at the Government House, Asaba, on Tuesday.

Speaking at the event, Governor Oborevwori emphasized Delta State’s rich endowment in natural resources, particularly crude oil and gas deposits, which have made it one of Nigeria’s leading oil-producing states.

He assured the delegation that the state offers a secure, business-friendly environment designed to attract both local and international investors.

“Delta State is not just peaceful; it is a thriving hub for economic activities,” Oborevwori stated.

“We are blessed with abundant crude oil and gas reserves, and we are open for business. Our state offers a conducive environment where investments can flourish, and profits are guaranteed.”

The Governor further highlighted the state’s robust transportation infrastructure, including: Asaba International Cargo Airport, Osubi/Warri Airport and Escravos Airport, serving the coastal oil terminals

“These airports enhance connectivity, making Delta easily accessible for investors and business operations,” he noted.

Governor Oborevwori showcased Delta’s thriving special economic zones such as: Kwale Free Trade Zone, Koko Free Trade Zone and Ogwashi-Uku Agro-Industrial Park

He revealed that these zones offer attractive incentives, including tax holidays and duty-free import and export privileges, designed to stimulate business growth and attract foreign direct investments.

“We provide potential investors with all the necessary information to ease the process of doing business in Delta. Our special economic zones are equipped to support diverse industries, from agriculture to oil and gas,” the Governor added.

Governor Oborevwori expressed optimism that the Ambassador’s visit would deepen the long-standing diplomatic ties between Nigeria and Sweden, which date back to 1961.

“Your visit will not only consolidate our relationship with the Swedish government but also encourage more Swedish companies to invest in Delta State. The fact that you’ve spent two nights here speaks volumes about the safety and hospitality we offer,” he remarked.

In her remarks, Ambassador Annika Hahn-Englund congratulated Governor Oborevwori on his recent recognition as “Governor of the Year” by ThisDay Newspaper and Arise Television.

She expressed her excitement about visiting Delta State, noting its importance in strengthening Nigeria-Sweden relations.

“Since 1961, Sweden and Nigeria have enjoyed strong diplomatic relations. My visit is aimed at promoting trade and investment, and I’m impressed by the potential Delta State holds,” Hahn-Englund said.

She also highlighted Sweden’s active business presence in Nigeria, particularly in sectors such as ICT, infrastructure, telecommunications, energy, and transportation, affirming the commitment to expanding these partnerships.

“We regularly engage with Swedish companies operating in Nigeria, and we are keen to explore new areas of collaboration. This visit is a step towards fostering stronger economic ties with Delta State,” she concluded.

The courtesy visit marked a significant milestone in strengthening bilateral economic relations, with both parties optimistic about future collaborations that will drive investment, create jobs, and foster sustainable development in Delta State.
