Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has been honoured with the South-South Governor of the Year Award at the maiden edition of the Progressive Digital Media Summit and Awards, held on Saturday at the State House Banquet Hall, Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The award recognizes outstanding leadership, transformative governance, and strides in digital inclusion across Nigeria’s South-South region.
Governor Oborevwori was celebrated for his impactful achievements in infrastructure, human capital development, and governance transparency since assuming office on May 29, 2023.
According to the organisers, the Governor’s effective implementation of the M.O.R.E Agenda, Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security, distinguished him among his peers.
His administration was commended for its people-centered policies, infrastructural expansion, and inclusive approach to governance.
The Summit, which drew key stakeholders from across governance, digital media, technology, and civil society, emphasized the importance of responsible communication in a digital age.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s keynote message, “Verify before you amplify”, highlighted the dangers of misinformation, cyberbullying, and fake news, and called for greater accountability in the digital space.
Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, Mr. Dada Olusegun, described the event as a morale booster for progressive stakeholders nationwide, noting that the summit strengthened collective resolve toward constructive digital engagement.
Receiving the award on behalf of the Governor, Hon. Lovette Idisi, Executive Assistant to the Governor on FCT Abuja Liaison and former Member of the House of Representatives, thanked the organisers for the recognition.
He described the award as a reflection of Governor Oborevwori’s unwavering commitment to good governance and inclusive development.
“This award is a clear validation of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s dedication to service and his sustained investment in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and youth empowerment across Delta State,” Idisi stated.
He further assured that the administration remains resolute in delivering the promises of the M.O.R.E Agenda, which continues to resonate with citizens across all three senatorial districts.
The Progressive Digital Media Summit featured keynote speeches and panel discussions on topics including digital innovation in governance, media ethics, and citizen-driven accountability.
Governor Oborevwori’s latest accolade adds to a growing list of commendations from media organisations, professional bodies, and civil society groups, underscoring rising public confidence in his leadership and performance.
