Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has congratulated Mr. Eze Anaba, Editor of Vanguard Newspapers, on his re-election as President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), lauding his visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to journalistic excellence.
In a statement released in Asaba by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, Governor Oborevwori described Anaba’s unopposed return at the Guild’s Biennial National Convention in Enugu as “a well-deserved affirmation of trust and performance” by his colleagues.
“Your re-election without contest is a powerful endorsement of your impactful and forward-looking leadership. The Guild has chosen wisely by voting for continuity in excellence,” the Governor stated.
Governor Oborevwori also extended warm felicitations to Mr. Onuoha Ukeh, Managing Director of The Sun Newspapers, on his emergence as the Guild’s General Secretary.
Ukeh secured an emphatic victory with 218 votes, triumphing over Wole Sogunle (45 votes) and Qasim Akinreti (30 votes), in what the Governor described as “a resounding expression of confidence in his capacity.”
He further congratulated other newly elected executive members and standing committee representatives of the Guild, including:

Karbi Alabi – Vice President, West
Hamza Idris – Vice President, North
Sheddy Ozoene – Vice President, East
Iyobosa Uwugiaren – Treasurer
Gabriel Fulajimi Akinadewo – Assistant Secretary
Charles Kanu – Publicity Secretary
Standing Committee Members: Rose Moses, Ejiro Umukoro, Olabisi Deji-Folutile, Juliet Bumah, Umoru Ibrahim, Paulyn Ugbodaga, Chinedu Max Egere, and Ikpong Essien-Udoh.
Governor Oborevwori commended the peaceful, credible, and transparent conduct of the convention, describing it as a glowing testament to the professionalism and integrity the Guild upholds.
He praised Anaba as a seasoned journalist and a beacon of inspiration within the Nigerian media landscape.
“Your leadership over the past two years has significantly repositioned the Guild and elevated its role in national discourse. I am confident that with your capable team, the NGE will continue to uphold the highest standards of editorial independence, ethical journalism, and democratic engagement,” the Governor added.
Governor Oborevwori urged the Guild to remain steadfast in promoting objective reportage, defending press freedom, and nurturing the next generation of journalists.
“Your renewed mandate is not just a reward for past achievements but a call to deepen the relevance of journalism in shaping a better Nigeria,” he said.
