Senator Ned Nwoko on Thursday advanced the campaign for the creation of Anioma State, leading a high-level delegation of traditional rulers, political leaders, and critical stakeholders to a strategic meeting with Barau Jibrin.
The visit represents a significant step in ongoing efforts to secure constitutional approval for the proposed state, as proponents seek to strengthen national backing and drive the initiative through legislative processes.
Speaking during the engagement, Ned Nwoko emphasized that the demand for Anioma State is a collective aspiration rather than an individual pursuit, underscoring its foundation as a people-driven movement.
He noted that the proposal has consistently featured before the National Assembly, supported by sustained legislative engagement and its inclusion in discussions surrounding constitutional amendments.
Nwoko further highlighted the increasing visibility of the Anioma cause, attributing it to deliberate advocacy efforts, heightened public awareness, and growing acceptance across various levels of governance.
He described the delegation’s visit as a reflection of a coordinated and resolute push toward actualizing statehood.
In his remarks, Senator Jibrin commended the unity and structured approach of the delegation, describing their presentation as constructive and firmly rooted within constitutional provisions.
He acknowledged the complexities associated with state creation in Nigeria, stressing the importance of extensive consultations, political consensus, and adherence to legislative requirements as critical success factors.
Jibrin also praised Nwoko’s consistency and commitment, noting his role in sustaining national attention on the Anioma State proposal.
He assured the delegation of institutional support within the scope of his office, promising fair consideration and facilitation where necessary.
Additionally, he encouraged continued engagement across the country to build the broad-based consensus required to advance the initiative.
On behalf of the traditional institution, Henry Kikachukwu expressed gratitude for the warm reception and assurances received, describing the visit as a strong demonstration of unity and shared determination among the Anioma people.
Other monarchs, including Charles Anyasi and Michael Ogbolu, echoed similar sentiments, pointing to an unprecedented level of cohesion across Anioma communities and reaffirming their collective commitment to the state creation agenda.
The delegation departed the meeting with renewed optimism, expressing confidence that sustained advocacy, strategic partnerships, and unified action will further advance the Anioma State proposal within the constitutional amendment process.
The engagement concluded with a clear commitment to continued dialogue, strengthened collaboration, and unwavering unity as key drivers of the journey ahead
