The National Headquarters of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) has announced the indefinite suspension of the long-serving Secretary of the Taraba State Council, Mr. Paul A. Tyav.

The suspension letter, signed by the National President, Mazi Godwin Abumisi, was formally presented to members of the Taraba State Council at the Pension House in Jalingo on Thursday, November 20, 2025.

Delivering the letter on behalf of the National President, the Deputy National Secretary (Administration), Alhaji Gazali Ahmed, said the decision followed numerous complaints lodged by various leaders and members of the union against the Secretary.

According to the directive from the National Headquarters, Mr. Tyav is to immediately hand over all union properties in his possession to the Assistant State Secretary, Mr. Moses B. Kunini.

Mr. Kunini has been instructed to assume office in an acting capacity pending the appointment of a substantive Secretary by the State Council.

Mr. Tyav, who served in the position for over 25 years, experienced repeated internal disputes and votes of no confidence from congresses and leadership groups within the union.

These longstanding issues ultimately led to his removal by the national leadership in Abuja.

Several members of the NUP in Taraba State who spoke to our correspondent expressed satisfaction with the development, stating that the suspension marks a new opportunity for stability and progress within the union.

They described the move as a necessary step toward restoring harmony and improving the welfare of pensioners in the state.

Efforts to reach Mr. Paul A. Tyav for comments were unsuccessful, as calls to his mobile line were not answered.
