Renowned peace and development advocate, Comrade (Dr.) Sheriff Mulade, has called on the Ijaw, Itsekiri, and Urhobo ethnic nationalities in the Warri Federal Constituency to shun all forms of violence and embrace lasting peace, stressing that there must be “no open ticket for crises beyond 2031.”

Dr. Mulade, the Ibe-Serimowei of the ancient Gbaramatu Kingdom, made this appeal while addressing stakeholders during this year’s International Day of Peace celebration, themed “Act Now for a Peaceful World.”

He noted that the theme underscores the urgency of proactive action, effective collaboration, and responsible stewardship in building a society anchored on peace and development.

“As we gather today, we are reminded that peace is not just a dream but a necessity for a thriving world. Let us reflect on our roles in fostering peaceful coexistence, mutual understanding, and cooperation,” he said.

Dr. Mulade particularly urged traditional rulers, community leaders, and youths in Delta State, and Nigeria at large, not to allow themselves to be used as agents of violence, but instead to work towards strengthening unity among Urhobo, Ijaw, Itsekiri, Isoko, and Anioma ethnic groups.

He emphasized that Warri’s stability is paramount, cautioning against divide-and-rule tactics by ethnic infiltrators and crisis profiteers.

“Warri needs permanent peace more than elections and voters. Only peace can create the enabling environment to attract investors, generate employment opportunities, and drive development in our communities,” he asserted.

The environmental and human rights activist further appealed to all Deltans to give maximum support to the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori in order to fully enjoy the dividends of democracy.

Dr. Mulade concluded with a call for collective action:

“Together, we can make a difference in Warri and Delta State. Let us act now to promote peace, justice, and equality, and build a world where everyone can live with dignity and respect.”
