The Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency (DSCTDA) has stepped up its enforcement efforts to ensure a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environment within the state capital.

This follows the sitting of the Agency’s Mobile Court in Asaba on Thursday, October 2, 2025.

During the session, 28 individuals and business operators were summoned for various environmental offences, including indiscriminate refuse dumping, obstruction of drainage channels, and failure to maintain sanitary premises.

Out of the 28 offenders, nine appeared in court, resulting in the conviction of eight and the discharge of one.

Those convicted include:

Landlord/Occupier, Welder Workshop (opposite El-Veep Superstore, Okpanam)

Landlord/Occupier, No. 14 FF Oputa Street, Asaba

Landlord/Occupier, Laundry Shop, Okpanam

Landlord/Occupier, Unig Restaurant, Okpanam

Landlord/Occupier, Furniture Shop by GSM Fence, Asaba

Landlord/Occupier, Eleganzer Mall & Event Centre, Asaba

Landlord/Occupier, Cold Belly Food & Beverages, Asaba

The only discharged case was that of the Landlord/Occupier at No. 19 Azuka Ndah Street, Asaba.

Meanwhile, the court issued bench warrants against 19 defaulters who failed to appear, including the Landlords/Occupiers of Evergreen Hotel, Okpanam; No. 19 Ekelie Street, Asaba; Bafua Filling Station, Okpanam; Rehoboth Estate, Asaba; El-Veep Superstore, Okpanam; and JB Comfort Kitchen & Bar, Okpanam, among others.

Speaking after the court proceedings, the Director-General of DSCTDA, Hon. Patrick Ukah, reiterated the Agency’s determination to enforce environmental laws without fear or favour.

He stressed that maintaining a clean and orderly environment remains a shared civic duty, adding that the Agency would continue to prosecute offenders to serve as a deterrent.

Similarly, the Head of Environment, Mr. Isaac Nwosu, reaffirmed that DSCTDA would sustain its ongoing sensitization and enforcement campaigns to achieve full compliance with environmental regulations.

He urged residents, business owners, and landlords to cooperate with the Agency by keeping their surroundings clean and adhering strictly to waste management standards.

Mr. Nwosu noted that the Mobile Court initiative is a key component of DSCTDA’s broader strategy to promote environmental discipline and support the state government’s vision of a cleaner, safer, and more livable Delta State Capital Territory
