In Igbo cosmology, masquerades are spirits. This may have motivated this particular masquerade to attempt a fire stunt during the ‘Eli’m Ede’ Cultural Festival which held on Saturday, 26th February, 2022.
Many who gathered at Amawa village square, Ogbunike, Oyi local government area of Anambra state to celebrate the festival were horrified by the scene which unfolded before them as the masquerade while attempting a routine fire stunt failed to notice that the costume had caught fire.
By the time the masquerade’s handlers noticed what had happened, the fire had spread all over its body.
Yes, spirits can not die a second time, but Umunna TV understands that this unfortunate accident did not end well, as casualty was reported.
