Kano Governor Yusuf Mourns Veteran Journalist, Aliyu Getso

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has expressed profound grief over the passing of veteran journalist and seasoned media professional, Aliyu Abubakar Getso, describing his death as a monumental loss to the journalism profession, Kano State, and Nigeria at large.

In a condolence message issued by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Governor Yusuf extolled the virtues of the late Getso, noting that he was a distinguished professional whose dedication and integrity contributed immensely to the advancement of journalism, information dissemination, and public enlightenment in the state and beyond.

“The deceased was renowned for his professionalism, integrity, and commitment to ethical journalism, qualities that earned him the respect of colleagues and media stakeholders across the country,” the governor stated.

The late Aliyu Abubakar Getso diligently served the media industry for many years.

He was an editor at Freedom Radio, made significant contributions to Vision FM and Premier Radio Kano, and also served in the Kano State Ministry of Information.

A committed member and former State Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kano State Council, Getso was instrumental in promoting press freedom, professional excellence, and the welfare of journalists.

He was equally a mentor to many young reporters who benefitted from his guidance, wisdom, and generosity.

Governor Yusuf prayed Almighty Allah to forgive the deceased’s shortcomings, reward his good deeds, and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus, while urging his family, colleagues, and associates to take solace in the impactful life he lived
