Trouble started on Friday 12th March 2021, at about 2:20pm when the hooligans riding in a tricycle kidnapped a 4-year-old boy who was returning home with his siblings from St. Joseph School Otolo, Nnewi axis of the state and zoomed off.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Haruna Mohammed, some commercial motorcyclists pursued, arrested the suspects and rescued the child at Akamili Community Nnewi.
He noted that alarm was raised by other children which attracted the attention of other commercial tricycle operators who chased and apprehended them.
The image maker disclosed that before the arrival of police patrol team to the scene, the two suspects were beaten to stupor by angry mob but were eventually rescued by the police and taken to the hospital for medical attention.
The PPRO said “One of the suspect whose identity is yet unknown was certified dead by a medical doctor while receiving treatment and the second one is still unconscious at the hospital while the corpse of the dead one has been deposited at the mortuary and investigation is still ongoing.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Monday Bala Kuryas, has warned youths to always exercise restraint by not taking law into their hands whenever they arrest suspects to enable the police conduct discreet investigation in order to unravel more facts surrounding the incidents including sponsors of the dastardly acts and bring them to justice.
