IGBIDE/EMEDE CRISIS: Police Apprehends Three Over Illegal Possession Of Firearms, Ammunitions

Three persons have been arrested by the police for purportedly in possession of illegal firearms and ammunition’s in Igbide, Isoko south local government area of Delta State.

   
It was gathered that the alleged ringleader, Mr. Christopher Irivi-Ubulubu, is the Chairman, Peoples’ Democratic Party, (PDP), Igbide ward, Isoko south local government area of the state.

Investigation revealed that Mr. Christopher Irivi-Ubulubu was nabbed with two others by the police.

It was gathered that the Igbide Ward Chairman doubles as the chairman of chairmen of Isoko south in PDP.

Their arrest on Wednesday followed a tip-off after youths of Igbide community in connived with hired thugs invaded Emede, a neighbouring community.

The invasion left five persons dead with several houses burnt while properties worth millions of naira were destroyed.

It was learnt that several indigenes and residents of the area deserted the community for fear of been ambushed.

The renewed crisis is as a result of a land dispute which has last over 34 years with over 100 lives and properties wasted with no end at sight.

To forestall further mayhem, chairman, Isoko south council, Mr. Itiako Constantine Ikpokpo, has suspended the salaries of the two traditional rulers of the communities and imposed a 24 hour curfew on the two warring communities.

His actions were resolutions reached at an emergency security council of the council he presided over.

He equally recommended that due to the recent killings and destructions, the state government should withdraw the staff of office from the traditional rulers.

The monarchs are His Royal Majesty (HRM) Edward Obukeni I, of Igbide and His Royal Majesty (HRM) Johnson Omote Ewhiri II, of Emede.

The government would also stop to recognize the President Generals of both communities.

It was reliably gathered that the President General of Igbide community was allegedly declared wanted by the security council.

Contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Onome Onovwakpoyeya, confirmed the arrest of the trio caught with firearms.
