Four students of the Federal University of Lafia has Thursday reportedly been kidnapped by unknown gunmen in Nasarawa state.
Findings by DAILY INDEPENDENT revealed that the incident took place at a Mararraba, a community close to the University
The Public Relations Officer of the institution, Abubakar Ibrahim, who also confirmed the development in a statement; explained that the unknown gunmen stormed the university community at about 11:30 pm Thursday morning and kidnapped the students to an undisclosed destination.
The statement, however, added that the Management of the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) regretted to announce that four students of the University were kidnapped by unknown gunmen on Thursday, January 13, 2022, at around 11:30 p.m.
The statement read: “The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Shehu Abdul Rahman, on behalf of the management of the institution, expressed his profound outrage at the unfortunate development and condemned it in strong terms and demand for the immediate release of those kidnapped.”
“The vice-chancellor reaffirmed that kidnapping of students constitutes one of the most serious threats to education in Nasarawa State, in particular, and Nigeria in general.
He also expressed his deep sympathy to the families of the abducted students, he assured them that serious efforts are being taken to ensure the quick rescue of the kidnapped students.
“The vice-chancellor, who has since visited the area where the students were kidnapped, visited the Nasarawa Police command where he formally notified the commissioner of Police about the abduction of the students,” the statement added.
The statement opined that the VC had equally contacted other security operatives, appealing to them to work tirelessly for the safe and quick return of the students.
Prof Rahman urged students of the institution to pay more attention to security-related matters, appealing to them to remain calm and go about their normal activities at the campuses of the University.
He hinted that additional measures have been put in place to guarantee adequate safety of lives and property within and outside the campuses of the University.
