Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has directed the immediate payment of all entitlements to civil servants earlier classified as ghost workers but later cleared by the State Staff Verification Committee.
Governor Kefas gave the directive on Thursday while receiving the committee’s report at the TY Danjuma House in Jalingo.
He commended the team for conducting a thorough and transparent exercise despite the challenges encountered, stressing that no administration can thrive without strict adherence to due process.
The Governor further instructed the committee to review the cases of individuals found to have been wrongly employed and provide a clear framework for their proper reintegration into the state civil service.
Presenting the report, Chairman of the Committee and Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Haruna Abubakar Abdulkadir, disclosed that out of the 7,800 workers initially tagged as ghost workers, only 1,410 were cleared and are now awaiting payment.
He noted that several civil servants were erroneously overpaid by millions of naira in the previous month, emphasizing the need for stringent corrective measures.
Abdulkadir added that many of the remaining affected workers had no employment records within the service, and recommended that all cleared personnel be immediately automated and reinstated into the payroll.
The Chairman expressed appreciation to Governor Kefas for entrusting the committee with the critical task of sanitizing the state’s civil service and commended all members of the committee, as well as residents of Taraba State, for their cooperation throughout the process.
