Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has pledged urgent measures to address infrastructural gaps in public schools across the state.
Speaking during an interactive session with Principals of Secondary Schools and Head Teachers of Primary Schools at the Banquet Hall, TY Danjuma House, Jalingo, on Tuesday, the Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to raising the standard of education in the state.
While noting that new school structures are currently under construction in 60 selected schools, Dr. Kefas said immediate interventions will be rolled out to ensure that all public schools remain functional pending the completion of the projects.
According to him, funds will be released directly to school administrators to fast-track renovations, provide furniture, fence school premises, plant trees, and create access roads, among other pressing needs.
The Governor directed school leaders to revive Parents-Teachers Associations (PTAs) to monitor and supervise ongoing projects.
He further announced the establishment of Community Education Development Committees in each Local Government Area, with a two-week deadline to submit quotations and proposals for school renovations, after which funds would be disbursed.
“Our commitment to developing future leaders and strengthening the education ecosystem is unwavering. As we ease the burden of education on parents, we are also determined to improve its quality in Taraba State,” Kefas said.
He also charged administrators to provide accurate and reliable data on the number of schools, teachers, and students across all local government areas.
“I don’t believe teachers’ reward is only in heaven. I want every teacher to make heaven, but they must also enjoy their reward here on earth,” he added.
Commissioner for Basic Education, Dr. Augustina Godwin, commended the Governor’s visionary leadership and described the meeting as timely in redefining the educational future of the state.
She highlighted the impact of the free education policy, which, she said, had significantly boosted enrollment in public schools.
Dr. Godwin assured that the Ministry would continue to support the Governor’s vision, with emphasis on quality teaching, digital literacy, and vocational training.
