Governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Delta State, Olorogun Barr. Kenneth Gbagi FNIM, OON has felicitated with Mr. Eze Anaba, President, Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), who won the election of the just concluded convention of the Guild in Owerri, Imo State.
Gbagi, a former Minister of State for Education, in a press statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Kenneth Orusi, on Saturday 17th June 2023, expressed good wishes for his new tenure.
The former Chairman, Legal Aid Council of Nigeria also congratulated those who emerged alongside with Anaba, urging them to take the body from where they met it to a new but enviable height.
The biggest employer of labour commended the itch-free conduct of the elections and the unanimous acceptance of the outcome, saying this has set a good standard for other unions to emulate.
The SDP flag bearer called on the newly-elected executives to get rid of fake news and to avoid negativism, advising the media to abstain from content that is against the maintenance of law and order and the sustenance of National security.
Mr Anaba, a journalist and an administrator scored 250 votes to defeat his rival, Bolaji Adebiyi, who scored 81 votes in an election which took place in Owerri on Friday.
The election was held during the NGE’s National Biennial Convention.
The result was announced by the Chairperson of the election committee, Maimuna Garba.
“Congratulations on your well deserved elevation as the new president of the Nigerian Guild of Editors.
“I urge you and your leadership to use the occasion to bring to bear those things you saw that made you to enter into the race.
“While congratulate you once again, I urge you to fight against fake news in the Nigeria media. Your experience at Vanguard newspaper, is enough for you to cause massive impact”, Gbagi added.
