Former minister of State for education and governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Delta State, Olorogun Barr. Kenneth Gbagi, has challenged the Senate President, Senator Ahmed Lawan to setup a probe panel and kickstart the action with heads of agencies in the country before taking turn on Muhammad Tanko, the immediate past Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).
The Criminologist put forth the challenge on a Live TV interview monitored by The Story, on Galaxy TV news where he said the State Security Services, Nigerian Police Force, the Nigerian Immigration, Customs and a host of other heads of agencies should be probed before extending such to the former CJN, Justice Tanko, who resigned recently.
The Chairman, former Legal Aid Council of Nigeria, who thanked Justice Tanko, for doing what most Nigerians in power would not do, said the call to probe the former CJN, was unnecessary.
“I would rather challenge the Senate President to put up a probe arrangement to all heads of businesses in Nigeria, or parastatal. For instance, the SSS, the Police, the Immigration, Customs and many. All these heads of government agencies have taken the youths and citizens for granted as a country.
“For the Senate President to call for a probe of the CJN, I see that as far overreaching in the negative sense. The reason being that all heads of agencies of Nigeria, have misused their opportunities and power given to them. Every little institution in this country has disabused the minds and misused taxpayers money as they wish”, he alleged.
Speaking further, Gbagi said: “I don’t have anything against a probe but where will it take us to? What has he done? He has resigned. I think we should foreclose all of those agitations and move on and congratulate him for doing what he has done and hope that the man who has come to take over from him will do a better job.
“Why are we not probing the Customs, the IGs that have come and gone and all the SSS people. We have lose of ammunition that we have misbehaved. All the Chiefs of Army, Navy and Air Force and I am saying that we cannot single out one individual or one agency and we talk about probe. That is my position as the former Chairman of the Legal Aid Council of Nigeria”.
He poured encomiums on the former CJN, who against all odds tendered his resignation letter, ‘it is not in our history for people to resign from their office but he has done so let us forge ahead” he said.
It would be recall that on June 27th 2022, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Tanko Muhammad, resigned following a petition signed by 14 justices of the Supreme Court against him.
